Arrested or charged? What to do right now

  • Stay silent. Politely tell officers you won't answer questions without your lawyer.
  • Don't discuss your case on jail phones, texts or social media. Those are recorded.
  • OVI arrest? In Ohio you can appeal your administrative license suspension at your first court appearance or within 30 days after it. Call us before that window closes.
  • Write down everything you remember about the stop or arrest while it's fresh.

William defends clients in Dayton Municipal Court, Montgomery County Common Pleas, and courts across the Miami Valley.

Common questions

Before you call

Should I talk to the police if I haven't been charged yet?

Not without a lawyer. Investigators often contact people before charges are filed. Calling an attorney first can change how the case goes.

Can my record be sealed?

Ohio expanded record sealing and expungement in recent years, and many convictions and dismissed cases now qualify. William can review your record and tell you if you're eligible.

How long do I have to file an injury claim?

For most personal injury claims in Ohio, the deadline is two years from the date of injury. Some claims have shorter deadlines, so call as soon as you can.

Should I talk to the other driver's insurance company?

You can give basic facts, but avoid recorded statements or signing anything until you've spoken with a lawyer.

What should I bring to the consultation?

Criminal: your citation, bond papers and any court dates. Injury: the crash report number, photos, insurance info and medical bills. Bring what you have.
